Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays. Then again, I probably have too many favorite holidays.
The Fourth hits home as a day to remember and reflect on the origin of this magnificent country. For 39 years, I’ve celebrated the 4th as an American. For 13 years I celebrated the 4th as an Airman, and for the last 4 years as a Guardsman. If you know me, you know that I love our country and the freedom it represents.
Regardless of the political climate, the worldly climate, or whatever is going on across the street, the 4th of July does, and always will, represent freedom. The fireworks, the back yard bar-b-ques, watermelon, and family togetherness. Our ability to come together as a nation and look beyond whatever ‘crisis’ is going on to remember what made America great, is still what makes us Great… Freedom.
As you flip the burgers, play in the yard, swim at the pool, or enjoy Independence Day however you choose, I encourage you to read the Declaration of Independence. Gather the kiddos around, read it out loud. Forget the noise of the T.V., social media, and all the petty distractions we consume in our daily lives. Look back at the vision, the boldness, and the perseverance that our founding fathers gifted to us.
I am proud to call America my home and I am grateful for the many freedoms we have because of a few crazy rebels a couple hundred years ago.
Enjoy the show!
